Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla has replaced lawyer Gilberto Repizo from the post of chief of the Bureau of Immigration’s (BI) Board of Special Inquiry.
In Department Order No. 435 dated last Thursday, June 19, Remulla designated lawyer Ruben Casibang Jr. as Repizo’s replacement. It was not known immediately Repizo’s new assignment.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado said on Friday, June 20, he has received Remulla’s department order and has implemented it.
“The office remains committed to upholding the directives of the Department of Justice in the interest of public service and national security,” Viado said.
Sources said Remulla’s order was issued following a news report on a letter of Repizo who accused Viado of corruption like alleged delays in deportation cases, favors to well-connected individuals, and toleration of corrupt practices.
Prior to Repizo’s letter, a group of “concerned BI employees” came out with a “white paper” accusing Viado of corruption.
President Marcos has ordered an investigation. Viado, who welcomed the probe, has asked the “concerned BI employees” and Repizo to present proofs of their accusations.
At the Senate, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian has sought an inquiry on the “white paper.” Viado also welcomed the planned inquiry.
