ILOILO CITY – Police arrested 82 individuals in Western Visayas region for violating the Commission on Elections gun ban that started on Jan. 12 and ended midnight on June 12.

The Police Regional Office-6 said majority of the violators of the gun ban were civilians with 78. Four were uniformed personnel.
Data no longer included Negros Occidental province and Bacolod City as the inter-agency Regional Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Center has a separate figure for Negros Island Region.
Police Lt. Col. Arnel Solis, PRO-6 chief information officer, attributed the peaceful conduct of the midterm elections to rigorous checkpoints and the issuance of warrants against owners of illegal firearms.
The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (PPO) arrested 34, followed by the Capiz PPO with 19, Antique PPO and Iloilo City Police Office, eight each, four each by the Aklan and Guimaras PPOs, and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-6 with five.
