While Malacañang maintained that the impeachment is not the focus of President Marcos, it reminded that procedures related to the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte should not be manipulated.
PCO Undersecretary Claire Castro (Betheena Unite)
Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro reiterated that the impeachment is not the President’s focus at the moment.
However, Castro said, the President generally believes that there is indeed a need for transparency and accountability among all public servants, not just in matters concerning impeachment trials.
So, when the President says 'process,' it means the law must be followed, the Constitution must be followed, and procedures should not be manipulated. The use of procedures and the rule of law must be proper and for the benefit of the people, for the interest of the public)," Castro said in a Palace briefing on Wednesday, June 11.
No negative impact
The Palace also believes there will be no negative impact on the part of Marcos if the impeachment trial of the Vice President is dismissed.
Citing that Marcos has nothing to do with the ongoing debates over the impeachment trial at the Senate, Castro stressed that it will not have a political effect on the part of the President.
Castro pointed out that the public is aware who among the Senator-judges were following the procedures, and those who are dismissing the rules in order for the impeachment to be halted.
First of all, the President is not part of the Senate debates. The people see who among them are following the procedures and those who are defying the procedure to avoid or in order for the impeachment trial to not push through)," Castro said.
So, we do not see any negative impact towards the President because he is not a part of the debates happening in the Senate)," she added.
"So, kung ito man ay ma-dismiss sabi nga po natin, taumbayan po ang huhusga sa Senado kung ano po ang ginawa nila during the impeachment trial (So, if this ends up being dismissed, as we said, it will be the people who will judge the Senate based on what they did during the impeachment trial)," she further said.
