NBI takes custody of suspect in 2020 killing of lawyer in Cebu City
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has placed in its custody a suspect in the 2020 killing of lawyer Joey Luis Wee in Cebu City.
The NBI identified the suspect as Manuelito Melia Camacho who was found detained at the Airport Police in Pasay City.
It said its International Airport Investigation Division (NBI-IAID) served on Camacho the arrest warrant issued by the Cebu City regional trial court (RTC).
“During his arrest, Camacho admitted that he is the same person charged in the above-named case,” it also said.
Before the NBI-IAID took custody of Camacho, the bureau said the fugitive used the name Jay-R Reyes while detained at the Airport Police for theft, unjust vexation, and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.
During Camacho’s detention at the Airport Police, the NBI said “a fight broke out between him and his partner, where it was eventually revealed that Jay-R’s real name is Manuelito Melia Camacho also known as Monching.”
The revelation prompted the head of the Police Intelligence and Investigation Division (PIID) of the Airport Police to verify the identity of the detainee.
“Upon record check, it was found that Monching has a warrant of Arrest for Murder, issued by the RTC (Regional Trial Court) Branch 10, Cebu City,” the NBI said.
“This information was communicated with the Agent-in-Charge of the Cebu District Office (CEBDO), who confirmed to the PIID the positive identification of Jay-R Reyes also known as Manuelito Melia Camacho,” it added.
