BUTUAN CITY – Authorities arrested a wanted New People’s Army leader in Sitio Dumalaguing, Impasug-ong town, Bukidnon province on Wednesday, May 28.
Brig. Gen. Seigfred C. Tubalado, commanding general of the
403rd Infantry (Peacemaker) Brigade, identified the suspect as Ka Gab and Jano, commanding officer of a unit under the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA North-Central Mindanao Regional Committee.
Ka Gab was arrested on warrants for frustrated murder and attempted murder issued by a court.
“The suspect was informed of his rights during the arrest,” Tubalado said.
“The suspect had long been a subject of surveillance due to his alleged involvement in high-profile atrocities committed and affected innocent civilians,” added Tubalado.
Ka Gab is in the custody of the Bukidnon Criminal Investigation Detection Group-Provincial Field Unit in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
Major Gen. Michele B. Anayron Jr., commanding general of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, commended operating units for the suspect’s arrest and reiterated their commitment to peace and justice in the Northern Mindanao region.
“The arrest sends a strong message to the remnants of the NPA that the law will go after them no matter how long it takes,” he said.
Anayron urged remaining NPA leaders and members to surrender and reintegrate to society. “It’s time for you to lay down your arms and take part in building a peaceful and progressive future,” he added.
