Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco received a 92 percent job performance rating in the nationwide “Boses ng Bayan” survey conducted in 2024, ranking her among the Marcos administration’s highest-rated cabinet officials.
The independent poll by RP-Mission and Development (RPMD) Foundation Inc., which surveyed 10,000 respondents nationwide, placed Frasco second behind Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian at 94 percent and alongside Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman with 91 percent.
Frasco attributed the strong approval rating to the collective efforts of DOT personnel and partners, citing inclusive leadership and transformative governance as key factors behind the sector’s revival.
“This recognition is not mine alone—it belongs to every hardworking individual in the Department of Tourism and our partners in the public and private sectors who have devoted themselves to rebuilding and transforming our industry under the vision of our President [Marcos Jr.],” she said.
Under Frasco's leadership, tourism revenue hit a record P760 billion in 2024, a 9.04 percent increase from 2023 and a 126 percent recovery compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
Tourism supports 16.4 million Filipino jobs, directly and indirectly, according to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), underscoring its vital contribution to the country’s economic growth.
Guided by the National Tourism Development Plan (2023–2028), which incorporates feedback from local and international stakeholders, the DOT employs a grassroots and whole-of-government approach for sustained recovery and growth.
Key initiatives like the Philippine Experience Program and the revitalized “Love the Philippines” campaign have reignited both domestic and international interest in the nation’s heritage, culture, and natural attractions.
Infrastructure improvements include new Tourist Rest Areas (TRAs), enhanced tourism road networks, a 24/7 Tourist Assistance Call Center, hop-on hop-off bus tours in major cities, improved Wi-Fi at key sites, and a streamlined electronic visa (e-visa) system to facilitate foreign arrivals.
Frasco has also expanded the tourism portfolio to fast-growing segments such as gastronomy, halal and Muslim-friendly tourism, diving, golf, farm, and cruise tourism, further boosting the Philippines’ standing as a competitive and inclusive destination.
The “Boses ng Bayan” survey assessed public trust, responsiveness, efficiency, and visibility, highlighting Frasco’s effective leadership in driving the tourism sector’s remarkable rebound under the current administration.
