Solicitor General Menardo I. Guevarra on Thursday, May 29, accepted the decision of President Marcos not to retain him as head of the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG).
Reports stated that the President has appointed Darlene Marie B. Berberabe, dean of the University of the Philippines College of Law and lecturer of the Philippine Judicial Academy, the education arm of the Supreme Court.
“I respect and fully understand the President’s decision,” said Guevarra who also served as justice secretary under the administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
“I am happy for Darlene Berberabe. As a top-caliber lawyer with an impressive management background, she will surely do as well as Solicitor General,” Guevarra also said.
He added: “Maybe it’s time to go back to a quiet and peaceful private life.”
In compliance with President Marcos’ directive, Guevarra had earlier submitted his courtesy resignation as solicitor general, a government post that has the rank of a Cabinet member.
