17 hurt as jeepney overturns in La Union

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – A driver and his 16 passengers were injured in a jeepney crash in Barangay Nagyubuyuban here on Saturday night, May 24.

Police identified the injured as Chiquito Alisen, 45, driver, and

passengers Edgar Vecino, Daisy Espinueva, Fred Pena, Emily Dingwas, Lourdes Galate, Myla Pasta, Grace Vecino, and Susan Antonio, and minors Jiecka, Nicole Shane, Nica, Immarie Kate, Aizen Dawrylle, Shinrei Aile, Shaira, and Jared.

Four victims were from Itogon, Benguet, eight from San Gabriel, La Union, three from this city, and one from Baguio City.

Investigation said the driver lost control of the jeepney when its brakes malfunctioned while moving downhill and turned upside down.

Victims were taken to the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center here.

Police advised people to check their vehicles before traveling to avoid accidents.
