Suspected fake products of a popular denim brand worth P47 million have been seized by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) from shops in Pasay City.
In a statement, the NBI said: “The operation resulted in the seizure of 15,814 pieces of various counterfeit products bearing the Levi Strauss & Co. trademarks, various business documents, receipts, Lazada and Shopee parcel tags, including machines used in the illegal operation, with estimated value of P47,442,000.”
The alleged counterfeit products were seized by operatives of the NBI-Intellectual Property Rights Division (NBI-IPRD) during an operation conducted against shops located inside the YSL Building in Pasay City.
During the operation, the NBI operatives implemented three search warrants for trademark infringement in violation of Section 155 in relation to Section 170 of Republic Act 8293, the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
The NBI said the operation was conducted based on the complaint filed by the law firm representing Levi Strauss & Co.
NBI Director Jaime B. Santiago assured the public of the bureau’s continued campaign and commitment “to stop the proliferation of counterfeit products.”
