A former Manila councilor has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) based on a warrant of arrest issued by the Makati City regional trial court (RTC) on a kidnap for ransom case.
The NBI identified the accused as former Manila Fifth District councilor Roderick Dayanan Valbuena who was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 in Pasay City last Tuesday morning, May 20, following his arrival from Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States.
It said its operatives from the National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) arrested Valbuena based the arrest warrant issued by the Makati City RTC Branch 61.
It also said that Valbuena was turned over to the NBI detention facility in Muntinlupa City for custody.
The NBI, however, did not provide details on Valbuena’s case.
But last year, news reports stated that then local government secretary Benjamin Abalos identified Valbuena as among those tagged in the June 2, 2024 kidnapping of a Malaysian and three Chinese nationals.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) also arrested last year four suspects, namely, police officers Angelito David, Ralph Tumangil, Ricky Tabora, and Carlo Villanueva.
