The Art House, in partnership with the Ateneo Art Gallery, launched The Zóbel Centennial Collection—a limited line of travel and gifting items inspired by the works of Fernando Zóbel, the artist, patron, and founder.
The Art House launches Zóbel Centennial Collection at Ateneo Art Gallery
New line of art-inspired objects features travel sketches by Zóbel
The event drew a thoughtful crowd: members of the press, figures from the academe, and stalwarts of the local art world. Guests previewed the collection, which reimagines Zóbel’s drawings as everyday objects—catch trays, Japanese umbrellas, coasters, and placemats—all proudly Filipino-made.
“This is the first salvo,” said Art House founder Carlo Pineda. “Very soon, we will be introducing more products like bucket hats and undated notebooks. Working with a museum, we were very mindful about the caliber of design and workmanship that this collection needed. True to the Art House ethos, we are also focused on bringing the work of Filipino artists like Zóbel closer to audiences and communities.”
Zóbel’s sketches, drawn from travels across the northern Philippines, capture quiet moments—religious icons, village architecture, and folk traditions. These were the details transferred to the objects on display.
The launch coincided with Synergy of Ventures: The Post-War Art Scene, the gallery’s current exhibition that features Zóbel’s foundational collection of modernist works, gifted to the university decades ago.
“This core collection would later serve as the foundation of Ateneo Art Gallery’s identity and direction,” said the museum’s curator.
The collection is a nod to the enduring reach of Zóbel’s vision—art not just for walls, but for life.
