5 Chinese nationals arrested for 'working illegally' in PH
Five Chinese nationals, including one who claimed he is a Filipino, have been arrested in Cebu for working illegally in the country, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Monday, May 19.
In a statement, BI Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado identified the Chinese national, who posed as a Filipino, as Wang Chaoxin, 32 years old. The names of the four other foreigners were withheld.
Viado said the five Chinese nationals were arrested in Liloan, Cebu last May 14 by joint operatives of the BI Region VII, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
He also said that three of those arrested have work visas but were working in a company different from that specified in their work permit, while the other one has no work visa.
“This successful operation is a testament to the strong coordination between the Bureau of Immigration and our law enforcement partners,” Viado said.
“Through close collaboration with the AFP and the PNP, we are able to act swiftly on intelligence reports and ensure that those abusing our immigration system are held accountable,” he added.
The BI said the operation was conducted after Commissioner Viado issued a mission order based on information from military intelligence operatives.
The information stated that “Wang had been using a fake identity, and had procured a Philippine driver’s license, a birth certificate, and registered a company under his assumed Filipino name,” it added.
