The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is currently affecting Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, and Palawan, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to these areas on Saturday, May 17.
ITCZ, easterlies to affect parts of the Philippines on May 17 – PAGASA
Based on PAGASA’s latest weather bulletin, residents in these regions should remain alert for possible flash floods or landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas, as moderate to occasionally heavy rains may occur due to the ITCZ.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. These weather conditions are being influenced by easterlies—warm and humid winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.
Although rainfall may be less frequent in Luzon and parts of the Visayas, PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms could still trigger flash floods or landslides in localized areas.
PAGASA advised the public to stay updated on the latest weather advisories and to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms or heavy rains.
