DAGUPAN CITY – Vice Gov. Mario Eduardo C. Ortega defeated niece, incumbent Rafy Ortega-David, in Monday’s elections to become the new governor of La Union.

First district Rep. Paolo P. Ortega V was reelected along with Rep. Dante S. Garcia of the second district.
They were proclaimed on Tuesday, May 13, at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan building at the Provincial Capitol in the City of San Fernando, La Union
Also proclaimed were the 10 elected members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
Representing the first district are re-elected board members Maria Rosario Eufrosina “Chary” P. Nisce, Gerard G. Ostrea, and Aaron Kyle M. Pinzon, and newly elected Board Members Miguel Corleone “Migz” B. Magsaysay and Atty. Ernesto V. Rafon.
Board members in the second district were re-elected Ruperto “Jun” A. Rillera Jr. and newly elected Alyssa Kristine B. Sibuma, Teresita “Tess”Garcia, Eulogio Clarence Martin P. de Guzman III, and Jefferson B. Fernando.
Commission on Elections provincial election supervisor and Provincial Board of Canvassers head Alipio Alonzo S. Castillo III said the election in the province was orderly and peaceful.
Gov. Ortega conceded defeat to her uncle.
“Holding my head up high! The people have spoken. Congratulations to whom the people have chosen Congratulations to Tito Mario Eduardo ‘Tot’ C. Ortega!” she said in a Facebook post.
“To my constituents and supporters, thank you for embracing the First Female and Youngest Elected Governor of La Union these past three years!
“I am always here to love and support you LU, in whatever way I can.
”Maminsan pay, siak ni Gov. Rafy Ortega-David, Dios unay ti agngina, may God bless us all, and God bless our fair La Union!”

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez was re-elected mayor of Dagupan City.

Fernandez, who is now in his second term, garnered 81,977 votes against incumbent Councilor Celia Lim who received 42,200 votes.
Vice Mayor Bryan Kua was also reelected for his third term.
Winning councilors were Michael Fernandez, Atty. Joey Tamayo, Tala Paras, Jigs Seen, Karlos Reyna, Danee Canto, Chito Samson, Marvin Fabia, Jaja Cayabyab, and Dada Manaois Reyna.
Fernandez returned to the post in the 2022 elections.
She thanked the people of Dagupan for their support.
