- High-ranking officials under the Marcos administration, who were asked to answer allegations over the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte, will comply and submit their counter affidavit, Malacañang said.
PCO Undersecretary Claire Castro (Betheena Unite)
Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the officials will file their counter affidavit after the Ombudsman ordered them to do so.
The Ombudsman ordered Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Chief Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil, and Special Envoy for Transnational Crime Markus Lacanilao to respond.
The Ombudsman’s order stemmed from Senator Imee Marcos' request to probe officials involved in Duterte’s arrest in March.
We all know the power of the Ombudsman. With the swift action taken by the Ombudsman on this complaint from Senator Imee Marcos, we will also respond)," Castro said.
The mentioned officials will respond and submit their counter-affidavits. And once again, we affirm that their actions were in accordance with the law)," Castro said.
According to the Palace official, President Marcos always tells his officials to follow the law and any legal and valid procedure. Although, she did not elaborate if there was a specific instruction from the President.
First of all, the President always says to follow the law, and whatever valid and legal procedure must be followed)," Castro said.
