Three-hundred out of the 395 family tents in Sitio Binging, Barangay 3, have been put up. Three common toilet and bath areas and three water tanks have been built and the installation of electrical facilities is underway.
Construction was facilitated by the Office of Civil Defense with support from the city government.
The OCD said the tent city will accommodate evacuees from nearby local government units when the alert level for Kanlaon Volcano is raised.
Alert Level 3 remains over Kanlaon Volcano following a series of ash emissions since the Dec. 9, 2024 eruption.
Almost 6,000 families or more than 18,000 individuals are under evacuation measures due to the restive volcano.
Mayor Raymund Tongson thanked people involved in the project.
Tongson said that the city is ready to receive evacuees should the situation escalate. “This is a situation wherein everybody needs to support everybody,” he said.
