Surigao del Norte 2nd district Rep. Robert Ace Barbers says he and his fellow chairmen of the House quad-committee (quad-comm) are at the very least talking about the possibility of going to Thailand to speak to self-confessed Chinese spy She Zhijiang.

"Actually pinag-uusapan namin yan.kasi nga, if only to prove a point na itong si Alice Guo na pumasok dito bilang espiya," Barbers, the overall chairman of the chairman of the special four-way panel, said in virtual press briefing Monday, Sept. 30.

(Actually we're talking about that because you know, if only to prove a point that Alice Guo entered the country as a spy.)

She, who is behind bars in Thailand, has been the subject of Al Jazeera documentary that featured another alleged Chinese spy in Guo. Surprisingly. She apparently knows who Guo is, and even refers to her as Guo Hua Ping, her supposed real name.

To Barbers, this makes She a tantalizing point of reference. But he remains realistic as to the impact the foreigner can have on the quad-comm probe.

"Napapag-usapan lang, what if pumunta tayo doon, kasi hindi naman tayo sigurado ma makakausap natin siya. I'm sure the Thai government may mga ebidensya sila," the Mindanaoan said.

(We're just discussing it, what if we go there, because we're not sure that we would be able to talk to him. I'm sure the Thai government is holding pieces of evidence.)

"If the Thai government will allow us na pwede naming tignan at siguro humingi ng dokumento sa kanila kung sila ay magbibigay," Barbers said.

(If the Thai government will allow us maybe we could take a look or request documents from them, if that's possible.)

"But I doubt no kung papayagan tayo dyan because I'm sure ongoing pa rin yung kanilang imbestigasyon," he said.

Guo is a key personality in the quad-comm's investigation on illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) in the country. Her mysterious personal details have led many to believe that she's a spy from China, and the documentary on She has only strengthened this notion.

The quad-comm has tentatively set its next hearing on Oct. 14.
