She reacted like a person who got exposed.

That's how Surigao del Norte 2nd district Rep. Robert Ace Barbers described dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo's demeanor during the last House quad-committee (quad-comm) hearing last Sept. 27 when she was confronted with allegations of being a Chinese spy.

"Para sa akin, initial reaction yun ng isang taong nabuking (For me, that was the initial reaction of a person who got exposed)," Barbers, overall chairman of the quad-comm, said in an interview with House reporters on Monday, Sept. 30.

During the hearing, excerpts of an Al Jazeera documentary was played before the mega-panel. The documentary featured the case of She Zhijiang, an alleged Chinese spy incarcerated in Thailand.

Surprisingly, She had a personal message for Guo--whose real name is allegedly Guo Hua Ping--included in the video.

"Guo Hua Ping. China cannot be trusted. The two of us once dedicated our lives to China's Ministry of State Security. Look at that happened to me. If you don't want to be eliminated, you should tell the world the truth," said She.

Guo--who is usually calm--lost her composure over this, and aired threats to sue She and Al Jazeera. Guo was insistent that she didn't know She, and that she's a Filipino.

"Klarong klaro na hindi niya inaakala na mayroong ganun no, na mula sa Al Jazeera yung information. Wala naman pong nanggaling dito satin na infong ganyan," Barbers said of Guo.

(It's very clear that she didn't expect to see that, for Al Jazeera to have that information. Such information didn't come from here.)

Barbers said the excerpts of the documentary was shown to Guo just to see if she would break and make an admission. However, she didn’t.

At any rate, the Mindanao solon said the matter warrants a deeper investigation.
