PBBM on Imee's decision to run as independent Senate bet: That's her choice

While Senator Imee Marcos opted to "stand alone" in the upcoming elections, the political alliance shepherded by her brother, President Marcos, will still be behind her.

In an interview in Tarlac on Monday, Sept. 30, Marcos stated that the senator's decision is "fine" with him.

"That's fine. I have run as an independent myself. That is her choice, I supposed it gives her a little bit of scope and freedom in making her schedule, campaign in the way that she would like to do," Marcos said when sought for reaction on his sister's recent statement that she will not be running under the Alyansa sa Bagong Pilipinas.

Her decision came after the President himself named her as one of the 12 senatorial candidates of the administration in a convention last week, which she also missed.

Although the lady senator chose to be an independent candidate, Marcos said the political alliance will continue to support her and will not close its doors in case she decides to join them.

"The Alyansa is still behind her, we will still continue to support her. And if down the road, she chooses to join us in our campaign sorties, she is, of course, very welcome," Marcos said.

The Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas is composed of five political parties, namely the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD), Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), Nacionalista Party (NP), and National Unity Party (NUP).

On Sept. 26, Marcos named the senator as among the list of long-time politicians under the alliance.

The administration's senatorial slate includes: Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr., Makati Mayor Abby Binay, Senator Pia Cayetano, Senator Lito Lapid, Senator Francis Tolentino, Senator Ramon "Bong" Reilla Jr., former senators Manny Pacquiao, Ping Lacson, and Vicente Sotto III, Deputy Speaker Camille Villar, and ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Erwin Tulfo.
