Two South Korean nationals, who are wanted in their country for alleged illegal gambling and multiple fraud cases, have been arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
They were identified by the BI as Lee Wonwoong, 33, and Huh Hwan, 60, who were arrested last Sept. 26 at the BI’s main offices in Manila while attempting to extend their tourist visas.
The BI said that during a routine database check, "both individuals were found to have active derogatory records."
It said that "Lee reportedly faces charges in South Korea for operating illegal gambling establishments while Huh is said to be wanted for multiple fraud cases.”
The two fugitives were immediately arrested by the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU) after BI Officer-in-Charge Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado issued a mission order. Those arrested are now detained at the BI's facility in Taguig City pending deportation.
“This incident is a strong reminder that the Bureau is always alert and proactive in identifying foreign nationals who pose a threat to public safety,” Viado said.
