John Anthony tested negative in a paraffin test, Ortiz said. However, Ortiz said this does not mean that he did not fire a gun.

Ortiz cited factors that could result into a negative result such as the area where the gun was fired and wind temperature.

He added that pieces of evidence were presented to the office of the prosecutor in Santa Cruz, Laguna such as CCTV footage, witnesses' statements, and the sworn statement of the owner of the CCTV.

The prosecutor’s office downgraded the case from frustrated murder to frustrated homicide.

John Anthony, a resident of Barangay Sampaloc, Pagsanjan, Laguna, allegedly shot Lee Cacalda, seaman and resident of Barangay Maytalang Uno, following a basketball game.
