Chinese 'fugitive' arrested in Paranaque City -- BI

A Chinese national wanted in his country for kidnapping has been arrested in Paranaque City, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Thursday, Sept. 26.

BI Officer-in-Charge Joel Anthony Viado identified the Chinese fugitive as Hu Yang, 26, who was arrested in Barangay (village) Tambo, Paranaque City last Sunday, Sept. 23, by operatives of the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) in coordination with the Paranaque City police and Chinese authorities.

“His arrest is a significant step in our ongoing efforts to apprehend foreign criminals hiding in the Philippines," Viado said.

"We will continue to work with our counterparts abroad to ensure that those who break the law are held accountable,” he added.

In the same statement, the BI said that its counterparts in China sent an information that Hu, whose passport is already revoked, is “a fugitive from justice for being wanted by the Public Security Bureau of Jinjiang City in China for kidnapping.”

“The suspect was said to be a member of a kidnapping syndicate that was notoriously known for torturing and killing their victims,” it said.

“Several of his accomplices were arrested earlier this year by the BI in Metro Manila and Pampanga,” it noted.

Hu is now in the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP) since he is also facing other charges in the Philippines, it added.
