SAGIP Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta can't seem to catch a break.

In a chamber where a solon's status is reflected by the number and quality of committee memberships that he or she has, Marcoleta has been stripped of his membership from not one, but five juicy committees in the House of Representatives.

And this all happened during plenary session Wednesday night, Sept 25, or just before the House kicked off its six-week recess.

Deputy Majority Leader Iloilo City lone district Rep. Jam Baronda stood in plenary Wednesday to nominate Manila Teachers Party-list Rep. Virgilio Lacson to the Commission on Appointments (CA), as well as the Committees on Energy, Justice, Public Accounts, and Constitutional Amendments.

Baronda said that Lacson would be entering these committees "vice Rep. Rodante Marcoleta", meaning that he would take over Marcoleta's spot in these panels.

It was hardly a week ago when Marcoleta was also removed as vice chairman of the Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability. He also lost his regular membership at the panel as a result.

No reason was given in plenary regarding the movement of the solons. This is customary.

Marcoleta is one of the few outspoken defenders of Vice President Sara Duterte during the just concluded deliberations on the P6.352-trillion General Appropriations Bill (GAB) for 2025.

Marcoleta remains a member of the House Committees on Basic Education and Culture, on Government Enterprises and Privatization, on Housing and Urban Development, and on Transportation.

Only solons who are members of certain committees can make motions and vote during panel hearings.
