2 Vietnamese, 1 Filipino arrested for 'illegal practice of medicine' -- NBI

Two Vietnamese nationals and a Filipino -- who are "not licensed physicians, nurses, or medical technologists" -- have been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for operating a medical clinic in Makati City.

In a statement, the NBI identified the arrested suspects as Vietnamese Phan Thuy Tien and Thoung Ai who are also known as Dr. Kim Trang and Dr. Nikki Nguyen, respectively, Medzar Jaafar, a Filipino.

“Arrested Subjects were presented for inquest proceedings before the Office of the City Prosecutor, Makati City for violations of Republic Act No. 2382, the Medical Act of 1959, and Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code, as amended,” the NBI said.

It said they were arrested last Sept. 8 during an entrapment operation last Sept. 18 conducted by operatives of the NBI’s Special Task Force (NBI-STF) at the Venus Beauty Academy in Makati CIty.

It also said the operation was conducted after the NBI-STF received a complaint concerning the establishment where “Subjects are offering medical services to the public in exchange for fees.”

“Verification made with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) revealed that Subjects are not licensed physicians/nurses/medical technologists, and therefore not authorized to practice medicine in the Philippines,” it also said.
