Two South Korean nationals, who are wanted in their country for alleged importation of illegal drugs and setting up gambling facilities, have been arrested, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Sunday, Sept. 22.
The BI identified them as Nam Sundong, 37, and Lee Hyunhak, 23, both of whom are the subjects of red notices issued by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) and have passports already revoked by the government of South Korea.
It said that Nam and Lee were arrested last Sept. 20 by operatives of the BI Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) in separate operations conducted in Manuyo Dos, Las Pinas City, and in Clark, Pampanga, respetively.
Nam, the bureau said, is wanted by the Ulsan District Court in South Korea since 2023 “for setting up places for gambling in violation of the country’s criminal act.”
Lee, on the other hand, has been wanted “for drug smuggling, after reportedly conspiring with accomplices to import 480.85 grams of methamphetamine to Korea, in violation of the Republic of Korea’s Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Narcotics Smuggling,” it also said.
The two Koreans are now detained at the BI’s facility in Taguig City while awaiting deportation, it added.
