20 families evacuated as retaining wall collapses in Muntinlupa


About 20 families were evacuated in a subdivision after a retaining wall collapsed in Muntinlupa due to heavy rains brought about by tropical storm Enteng and southwest monsoon (habagat). 

Mayor Ruffy Biazon visited the evacuation center inside the Villa Carolina 1 Subdivision in Barangay Tunasan, one of the areas that experienced flooding in Muntinlupa.

He said a retaining wall beside a creek inside the subdivision collapsed and caused flooding. About 20 families were rescued and are now staying at the evacuation center. 

The mayor suspended classes and work at the city government because of the bad weather. There are city government employees who were also affected by floods, he said. Employees belonging to the emergency services reported to work

Netizens posted videos of floods in their areas including in Barangay Putatan and Cupang. 

Tunasan Barangay Captain Dave Arcilla also reported flooding in the Sikatville area.  

Portions of the National Road in Muntinlupa became impassable as heavy rains caused flooding. 

The Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau (MTMB) reported that as of 3:13 a.m., roads that were impassable were Summit Circle, Bayanan; Soldiers Hills, Putatan; City Hall, Putatan; Susana Intersection,Tunasan; Lodora,Tunasan; and Pepsi,Tunasan. 

By 4:54 a.m., flood waters in these areas subsided except at Summit Circle. 

In a live broadcast on Facebook at 8:34 a.m. on Sept. 2, Biazon said the National Road and Service Roads are now passable. 

Biazon also visited the Tunasan River bridge at the border of Muntinlupa and San Pedro, Laguna where he saw garbage piled up. 

The Muntinlupa City Government Engineering Office hauled the garbage to clear the river.
