NBI nabs 2 men for 'sex trafficking of minors'

Two men have been arrested during an entrapment operation in Quezon City for "engaging in sex trafficking of minors," the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said.

Those arrested were identified by the NBI as Chresto Jun D. Saligumba and Renier C. De Los Reyes. They were apprehended by the operatives of the NBI’s Cybercrime Division (CCD) and Human Trafficking Division (HTRAD) last Sept. 4.

In a press statement, the NBI said "five victims were successfully rescued, three of whom are minors."  Those rescued have been turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), it said.

It also said that Saligumba and De Los Reyes have been charged with violations of Republic Act (RA) 9208, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, as amended, in relation to RA 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act.

The NBI said the operation was conducted after receipt of a request from a non-profit organization dedicated in combating human trafficking.

“According to the organization, the person behind the Facebook (FB) account ‘SLIM’ is engaged in the trafficking of girls between 13-17 years of age,” it also said.

“Furthermore, SLIM can provide 6-8 girls to have sex with customers for a fee of P3,000 in a rented apartment in Quezon City,” it added.
