Two foreign "fugitives" wanted in their respective countries for alleged criminal offenses have been arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
In a statement, the BI identified them as Zhang Xi, a Chinese, and Wu Hsih Hsu, a Taiwanese. The are now detained at the BI's facility in Taguig City pending their deportation.
The BI said that Zhang was arrested by operatives of the bureau's Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) last Sept. 8 along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard in Paranaque City
“Zhang is wanted by the Chinese government and the Interpol (Internatinal Criminal Police Organication). Two warrants of arrest were issued against him by the Cyber Police Branch of Daqing Municipal Public Security Bureau in 2023 for Illegal Control of Computer Information Systems in Violation of the Article 285 of China's Criminal Law,” it said.
“He was said to head an online criminal group that has designed a computer virus that obtained personal information of its victims for use in fraud-related activities,” it also said.
The BI said that Wu was arrested last Sept. 5 at the BI's head office in Intramuros, Manila.
“Wu was tagged as an undesirable alien after the BI received information from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines that he faces a warrant of arrest for rape filed before a Taiwan court in 2005. He was also found to be overstaying for over 20 years,” the bureau also said.
