Southern Leyte 1st district Rep. Luz Mercado became the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats' (Lakas-CMD) 106th member in the House of Representatives.
Rep. Mercado joined 48 others who took their oath of membership before House Speaker Martin Romualdez on Monday night, Sept. 9.
Rep. Mercado is married to former public works secretary and congressman Roger Mercado. She was formerly a National Unity Party (NUP) stalwart.
Romualdez is the president of the Lakas-CMD, whose membership now is now more than a third of the lower chamber.

“Your decision to join us strengthens our commitment to promoting unity, progress, and service to the Filipino people, in line with the vision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. for a ‘Bagong Pilipinas’,” Romualdez said in his message welcoming the new party members.
“Together, we will continue to champion good governance, inclusivity, and the welfare of our nation,” he added.
Sworn in along with Rep. Mercado was Southern Leyte Governor Damian Mercado.
