Vice President Sara Duterte said she will now use her position, resources, and platform to be the voice of those left unheard and show government officials how to command after her hometown of Davao City was flooded last month.

In a statement on Friday, Aug. 9, Duterte thanked the Japanese government for assisting Davao City during the flood as she lamented how her parents' home in Taal St., Davao City was flooded which damaged their belongings.
She recalled how she had to brave chest-high floods twice and how it still pains her that 30 people died when she was the mayor of Davao City due to a flash flood.
"Hindi siya nakakatuwa (It is not funny)," she said.
"So, I am using my position, resources, and platform, to be the voice for my fellow Filipinos who are left unheard," she added.
"So l am using my position, resources, and platform to be the voice to show our government officials HOW TO COMMAND," she stressed.
According to the Vice President, when she was still the mayor of Davao City, she ordered the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) XI to conduct a study on flood control and drainage to serve as a basis for future projects.
She said this allowed the administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte to craft a master plan and feasibility study for flood control that started in September 2016 and ended in July last year.
Vice President Duterte urged the current administration to fund the projects under the master plan accordingly.
"Baka naman may alinlangan pa hinggil dito dahil Duterte ang mayor at mas mamarapatin nilang gibain na lang (Are you having doubts about it because a Duterte was in charge and choose to demolish the projects)?" she asked.
Duterte then reminded public officials that leadership is faithfulness to the oath of office.
"Leadership is faithful service to the people. Leaders should only say one thing — that 'it is done,'" she said.
"Leaders should not be motivated by cash, cocaine, or champagne. And, most certainly, leaders should not be made to hold champagne glasses," she added.
"Again — We, Filipinos, deserve better. We, Filipinos, should be the best," she continued.
