Commander Jansen Benjamin, head of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-northern Negros Occidental, confirmed the death of 24-year-old Leodigario Brosas of Barangay 6-A, Victorias City, Negros Occidental.
Benjamin said the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) in Victorias City received a call from CGSS Cadiz City in Negros Occidental informing them of a report from CGSS Bantayan, Cebu regarding a cadaver found at 10:30 a.m.
He said that fishermen of a small fishing boat found the remains of Brosas. They turned over the cadaver to the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Bantayan.
Benjamin said the victim’s family did not request for an autopsy and decided to bury his remains in Bantayan.
Brosas was last seen alive sleeping on the aft of a fishing vessel after a fishing venture with his companions.
His companions noticed he was no longer in the boat on their way home to Victorias City and believe that he might have gone overboard on the sea between Cadiz City, Negros Occidental and Balidian Island, Concepcion, Iloilo.
