Schools with postponed opening resume normal operations
Enrollment in basic education for School Year (SY) 2024-2025 has reached 24 million, according to data released by the Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Based on the latest Enrollment Monitoring Report for SY 2024-2025, the total number of enrollments in formal and informal education has reached 24,178,797.

DepEd said this number represents 87.22 percent of its target enrollment for this SY, which is set at 27,722,835.
The latest enrollment data covers public and private schools and the Alternative Learning System (ALS).
DepEd’s data show that 21,115,238 students are enrolled in public schools, while 2,732,184 learners are in private schools.
Enrollment in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) offering basic education has also reached 40,914, while ALS enrollment hit 290,461.
The Elementary level has the highest number of enrollees across all education levels and sectors, with 13,426,294, followed by Junior High School (JHS) with 7,091,459 and Senior High School (SHS) with 3,370,583.
Meanwhile, Region IV-A has the highest number of enrollees according to DepEd’s latest data, with 3,516,873, followed by Region III with 2,557,435 and the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,489,979.

‘Back to normal’
DepEd also announced that all schools, that had postponed openings on July 29, are now open.
“Open na po lahat ng schools nationwide today (All schools nationwide are now open today),” Media Relations Chief Dennis Legaspi told reporters in a Viber message.
Legaspi noted that all schools are “back to normal” operations. “Wala na ding schools ang ginagamit as evacuation centers (Schools are no longer being used as evacuation centers),” he added.
On the opening of classes for SY 2024-2025 on July 29, DepEd records showed 842 schools could not proceed with their opening due to the impact of Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon.

Despite calls to postpone the opening date for this SY, DepEd instructed flood-free schools with minimal damage to open as scheduled to avoid disrupting the education of learners.
Schools that have pushed their opening dates used the delay for clean-up and rehabilitation activities.
Late enrollment
As all schools with postponed openings have started classes, DepEd said enrollment is still ongoing.
Legaspi said DepEd schools will be accepting late enrollees for SY 2024-2025 until Sept. 16.
During his visit to Carmona National High School in Cavite on the first day of classes, Education Secretary Sonny Angara said enrollment remains ongoing.

“Usually naman continuous enrollment pa rin ‘yan eh (Usually, it's still continuous enrollment),” Angara said. “Karamihan diyan nag-e-enroll three to four weeks bago pasukan at bukas pa ‘yan ‘til September (Most of them enroll three to four weeks before classes start, and it will still be open until September),” he added.
For this SY, DepEd has set the enrollment period in all public schools from July 3 to July 26.
While classes have already started, DepEd said public schools continue to accept late enrollees.
Based on DepEd’s existing policy, schools can accept late enrollees as long as the students can attend 80 percent of the total class days for the school year.
