Suspected leader of 'human trafficking syndicate in China' arrested in Paranaque City -- BI
A Chinese national, who is wanted in his country on charges of trafficking his compatriots to work for online gaming establishments in the Philippines, has been arrested, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.
Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the arrested Chinese national as Wang Chuancong, 35 years old. Wang was apprehended by the BI's Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) in Paranaque City last Tuesday, July 30.
“We were told that Wang heads a syndicate that facilitates the illegal departure of Chinese nationals by forging documents to facilitate their outbound travel in China,” said Tansingco who issued the arrest order at the request of the Chinese government..
“This allows them to travel to different countries including the Philippines to work in online gaming hubs,” he added.
In a statement, the BI said that “Wang is said to be subject of a detention warrant issued [by] the municipal public security bureau in Jinjiang, China in April 2024 where he was charged with human trafficking which is a serious criminal offense under Chinese law.”
It also said that Wang, who arrived last February in the Philippines as a tourist, is already undocumented due the Chinese government’s cancelation of his passport.
Wang is now detained at the BI’s detention facility in Taguig City while awaiting deportation.
