Thirty persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) have sought the grant of parole, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.
Parole refers to the conditional release of a PDL from after he or she has served his or her minimum jail sentence.
In a statement, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said "the Parole and Probation Administration (PPA), Regional Office VIII, under the leadership of Regional Officer-in-Charge Ma. Beverly D. Ampon, conducted a Pre-Parole/Pre-Executive Clemency Investigation at LRP on July 29, 2024."
“This activity aims to facilitate the release of qualified PDLs as part of ongoing efforts to decongest the prison system,” BuCor said..
It added that LRP's Pre-Parole Investigation Coordinating Committee “assessed and interviewed a total of 30 PDLs from the Maximum, Medium, and Minimum Security Camps during the visit.”
It also said that PPA representatives also visited last July 25 the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro where 40 PDLs also sought to be granted parole and executive clemency.
