Seeing a double screen on smartphones may no longer be surprising, but a triple screen?  No, the world isn't playing tricks on your eyes.  You are not experiencing a medical condition either; rather, you are seeing an upcoming trend among technology companies exploring the concept of foldable phones.

Very recently, Tecno introduced their first triple foldable phone, the Phantom Ultimate 2.  Although still a concept phone, hence, not yet available as a commercial product, it clearly conveys the company's vision for the future of mobile technology.

Standout features of the Phantom Ultimate 2 include a sleek 11mm folded profile, a 6.4-inch display that unfolds to reveal a 10-inch OLED touch display screen, its own dual hinge mechanism and TDDI technology for superior touch performance and reduced power consumption.

The dual hinge mechanism allows the smartphone to transform to different modes - tablet mode when unfolded throughout, tent mode where the screen splits to 2 equal halves facing opposite directions for a shared viewing experience and a laptop mode where the bottom half is folded to be its keyboard.

No other technical details were revealed, so we'll have to wait and see until its fruition.  Do note, however, that Tecno isn't the only contender in this tri-fold race.  Companies like Samsung, Huawei, OPPO and Xiaomi have also shared their vision, each promising uniquely awesome experience that further pushes the boundaries of smartphone design.  The unfolding alone creates a unique smartphone experience, akin to opening a multilayer book, reminiscent of the 3D nursery books we used to read and love.

Nostalgic, yet so futuristic.  By combining the familiar concept of a 3D book with the cutting-edge technology of a modern device, this evokes a sense of nostalgia while looking forward to the future of mobile technology.
