IU, G-Dragon, Jungkook, Taeyeon, Jimin chosen in top 10 most loved K-pop solo singers: survey

IU has been selected as the No. 1 most loved K-pop solo singer of the 21st century in South Korea. 

Polling firm Gallup Korea conducted a survey from Aug. 19 to 23 among 1,052 respondents aged 19 to 69 nationwide in South Korea, commissioned by Korean media outlet Star News for its 20th anniversary.

Respondents were asked, “Among the following K-pop solo singers who debuted as soloists in the 21st century (2000 to present), who do you think is the most loved K-pop solo singer?” 

Based on the results released by Star News Korea on Aug. 29, IU took first place with 48 percent of the votes. Among age groups, IU got 59 percent among 19-29, 48 percent among those in their 30s, 47 percent in their 40s, 49 percent in their 50s, and 40 percent in their 60s. 

By gender, IU got 51 percent among men and 46 percent among women. 

Korean rapper Psy came in second with 36 percent followed by Big Bang’s G-Dragon in third place with 23 percent and Lee Hyori in fourth place with 18 percent. 

BTS’ Jungkook is No. 5 with 14 percent followed by BoA (No. 6, 12 percent), Rain and Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon (No. 7, seven percent), and BTS’ Jimin and Jay Park (No. 9, five percent). 

Also ranking in the survey were Zico and Sunmi (11th place, 4  percent), Big Bang's Taeyang (13th place, 3  percent), EXO's Baekhyun (2  percent), SISTAR's Hyolyn (2  percent), HyunA (2  percent), Chungha (2  percent), Heize (2  percent), Hwasa (2  percent), Zion.T (1%), and others (1%). 

On the other hand, BTS emerged as the No. 1 best national singer/group in the same survey.
