The Caloocan City government launched its annual “Balik Eskwela: Libreng Gupit'” program on Friday, August 2, offering free haircuts to teachers, students, and parents in various schools in the city.

According to the public information office, the initiative will run until August 22 in both North and South schools.
City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along,” Malapitan said the program is one of his administration’s efforts to motivate the students to focus on their studies as they prepare for the new academic year.
“Alam naman po natin na marami pa sa mga kabataan ngayon ang nasa ‘vacation mode’ pa. Kaya po isa sa mga paraan ng pamahalaang lungsod taon-taon ay ang pagsasagawa ng libreng gupit bago mag-pasukan upang maihanda hindi lang ang kanilang itsura kundi pati na rin ang kanilang mga isip para sa pag-aaral (We know that many of the youth are still on 'vacation mode.' That's why each year, the city government offers free haircuts before the school year starts. This helps not only in getting them ready in appearance but also in preparing their minds for study,” he said.

Malapitan also reassured its residents that the city government has implemented programs to support all students from basic education to college.
“Muli po, bukod sa libre ang pag-aaral sa lahat ng pampublikong paaralan sa buong Caloocan mula elementarya hanggang kolehiyo, regular po ang ating pakikipag-ugnayan sa mga school administrator, guro, at maging sa mga magulang upang mas maging masiguro natin na makatapos ang mga Batang Kankaloo at maging maginhawa ang kanilang kinabukasan (Once again, aside from providing free education in all public schools across Caloocan, from elementary to college, we regularly communicate with school administrators, teachers, and even parents. This is to ensure that the youth of Caloocan can complete their education and have a prosperous future),” the mayor said.
The city government also distributed school bags and kits to 222,854 students from kinder to elementary on July 29.
