What is an AppKey?

An AppKey is a security feature that replaces the traditional OTPs.  It utilizes two-factor authentication system combining the user's biometrics (fingerprint or facial recognition) and device ID.  

Biometrics are unique for each person as they rely on the individual's physical or behavioral characteristics.  Since biometrics are distinct for each person they are not easily replicated or forged.  In addition, as they are not easily forged, they cannot be transferred or shared, unlike passwords.  All these features make biometrics a powerful tool to enhance security.  This ensures accurate identification.

How does the AppKey work with the Metrobank App?

The Metrobank app has significantly boosted its security features by requiring both your unique biometric data and your primary device for transaction approval.  After verifying your identity with biometrics, the app will only allow transactions from the specific smartphone or tablet you've registered.  This double layer of protection means even if someone manages to steal your login information, they're still locked out of your account without your phone and biometric data.  It's a powerful combination that gives you peace of mind.

Activating the AppKey is simple.  Log in to your account, then find and tap "Enhance security with AppKey."  Next, enter your passcode and the OTP sent via SMS to your registered mobile number.  To enable biometrics, tap "Yes, enable biometrics" and follow the on-screen instructions to set up Face ID or fingerprint recognition.

The AppKey will be active in 24 hours.
