“Ka Percy Lapid's slay case is not for sale.”
This is what veteran journalist Roy C. Mabasa declared in his Facebook post on Wednesday, August 14, on the murder case involving the death of his brother Percival C. Mabasa, who was also known as Percy Lapid.
Roy made the declaration in response to queries if the Mabasa family has been offered P150 million to drop the murder case.
The veteran journalist said that the offer is “completely unfounded.”
“The thought of selling out Ka Percy’s case has never crossed our minds,” stressed Roy.
Percy Lapid was killed during an ambush in Las Pinas City on Oct. 3, 2022.
The murder case is now pending before the Las Pinas City Regional Trial Court (RTC) where former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director general Gerald Q. Bantag has been named as one of the accused.
Despite the RTC’s issuance of an arrest warrant, Bantag remains at large.
Among those accused, self-confessed gunman Joel Escorial was convicted last May 6 and sentenced to a maximum of 16 years imprisonment for his cooperation in the case.
Another accused, former BuCor deputy security officer Ricardo S. Zulueta who has been identified to have sought the hitmen against Mabasa, had passed away earlier this year.
