NBI arrests man for 'sextortion'

A man, who demanded P30,000 from his former girlfriend, threatened to burn her house, and spread their sex videos online, was arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Mandaluyong City.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 9, the NBI identified the arrested man as Dibson M. Manubay who has been charged with robbery-extortion in relation to Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, and for violating the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004

It said Manubay was arrested last Saturday, July 6, during an entrapment operation in a Mandaluyong City mall where he was caught by operatives of the NBI's Public Corruption Division (NBI-PCD) receiving money from the female complainant.

It also said it learned from the complainant that “she was in a relationship with the Subject but decided to sever it due to his abusive conduct.”

“Subject, who had in his possession complainant’s naked photos and explicit videos, threatened not only to inflict physical harm, but to burn her house as well,” said the bureau.

“Further, Subject was demanding P30,000 in exchange for not circulating her uncompromising sex videos online,” it added.
