Chinese national arrested for 'illegal practice' of medicine -- NBI
A Chinese national has been arrested in Manila for alleged illegal practice of medicine, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said.
The NBI identified the suspect as Ling Ying Wu who was arrested by joint operatives of the NBI Lal-lo District Office (NBI-LALDO) and NBI Special Task Force (NBI-STF) during an entrapment operation last July 22
“Verification made with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) revealed that Subject Ling Ying Wu is not licensed to practice medicine in the Philippines,” said the bureau.
Following the arrest, the Chinese national was presented for inquest for violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 2382, the Medical Act of 1995, and for selling health products without a license to operate from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in violation of Section 11(k) RA No. 3720, the Food, Drug, Cosmetic Act.
The NBI said the operation was conducted based on information that “the above-stated Subject is engaged in the Illegal Practice of Medicine.”
“The informant disclosed that Subject Wu agreed for a meet up for the purpose of administering drugs for a certain ailment,” it said.
Prior the arrest, NBI operatives proceeded to the meeting place located at a parking lot of an establishment where the Chinese national would be applying an intravenous (IV) drug to an undercover agent for the price of P10,000.
“The operation resulted in the arrest of the Subject after receiving the payment from the service rendered,” the NBI said.
“Operatives likewise seized several Chinese medicines and implements from the Subject,” it added.
