NBI arrests driver for 'stealing' P7.7-M in cash, valuables from former employer


A driver has been arrested in Angeles City in Pampanga for having reportedly stolen about P7.79 million in cash and valuables from his former employer since 2023.

In a statement, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) identified the suspect as Ariel Camileo Tadeo who has been charged  with qualified theft and trespass to dwelling under Articles 310 and 280 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC).

The NBI said that Tadeo was arrested during a hot pursuit operation conducted by agents of the bureau's Pampanga District Office (NBI-PAMDO).

It said the hot pursuit operation was conducted after Tadeo was caught on the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera at the house of a female complainant, the former employer, taking P30,000 in cash from a secured steel cabinet in her townhouse in Angeles City.

“Recovered from Subject Tadeo were duplicate keys of the main door and steel cabinet stolen from the complainant, a motorcycle. and P5,000 cash,” it also said. 

The NBI noted that the burglary took place while the female complainant was filing a complaint against him before the NBI-PAMDO.

“Allegedly, the Subject, who was the complainant’s long-time driver, had been stealing her valuables such as Rolex watches, diamond necklace, diamond-studded rings and earrings, and bangle bracelets with an estimated value of P7,790,000 since November 2023,” it said.

“Subject Tadeo disclosed that he already sold the Rolex watches in Greenhills, San Juan City for P500,000 and other jewelries in Angeles City, Pampanga,” it also said.
