DepEd: SY 2024-2025 enrollment surpasses 20 million

Angara says enrollment in public schools usually continues until September


With over 20 million learners enrolled on the first day of classes for School Year (SY) 2024-2025 on Monday, July 29, the Department of Education (DepEd) expected the number to increase as enrollment continues in the coming months.

“Usually naman continuous enrollment pa rin ‘yan eh (Usually, it's still continuous enrollment),” said Education Secretary Sonny Angara during his school visit to Carmona National High School in Cavite.

“Karamihan diyan nag-e-enroll three to four weeks bago pasukan at bukas pa ‘yan ‘til September (Most of them enroll three to four weeks before classes start, and it will still be open until September),” he added.

DepEd has set the enrollment period in all public schools from July 3 to July 26.

However, enrollees are still accepted in public schools even after classes have started.

As per DepEd’s existing policy, public schools can accept late enrollees as long as the students can attend 80 percent of the total class days for the school year.

As of noon, DepEd data showed the number of enrollees for SY 2024-2025 has reached 20.5 million.

The total enrollment for public and private schools across all basic education levels stood at 20,598,072.

DepEd reported that of this number, 17,979,764 students are enrolled in public schools, while 2,366,925 learners are in private schools.

In State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) offering basic education, there are 29,316 learners currently enrolled for this school year.

Enrollment in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) also increased, with a recorded enrollment of 222,067.

The highest number of enrollees comes from the Elementary Level with 11,301,108, followed by Junior High School (JHS) with 6,204,006, and Senior High School (SHS) with 2,870,891.

Calabarzon has recorded the highest number of enrollees so far with 3,070,457, followed by Central Luzon with 2,216,637, and the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,207,473 enrollees.

The enrollment for SY 2023-2024 reached 27,584,240.

DepEd has set the target enrollment at 27,722,835 for SY 2024-2025.
