DepEd: Enrollment for SY 2024-2025 expected to hit 20 million by July 29


The Department of Education (DepEd) expects the number of enrollees to reach 20 million when classes for School Year (SY) 2024-2025 officially start on July 29.

“We are likely to have between 19 and 20 million learners enrolled by Monday,” Dennis Legaspi, Media Relations Chief under the Office of Education Secretary Sonny Angara, told the Manila Bulletin.

As of July 28, the total enrollment for public and private schools across all basic education levels stands at 19,268,747.

Based on DepEd data, the number of enrolled students last school year was 27,584,240. For SY 2024-2025, DepEd has set the target enrollment at 27,722,835.

“The target enrollment is usually achieved by October of every school year,” Legaspi said in a mix of English and Filipino. “Historically, the number of enrollees increases even after classes have started,” he added.

According to the Enrollment Monitoring Report for SY 2024-2025 released by DepEd’s Planning Service – Education Management Information System, 16,794,173 students are enrolled in public schools, while 2,244,867 learners are in private schools.

In State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) that offer basic education, there are 23,875 learners enrolled.

For the Alternative Learning System (ALS), enrollment has reached 205,832.

The Elementary Level has the highest number of enrollees, with 10,487,481, followed by Junior High School (JHS) with 5,851,382, and Senior High School (SHS) with 2,724,052.

Calabarzon has recorded the highest number of enrollees so far, with 2,811,458, followed by Central Luzon with 2,194,185, and the National Capital Region with 2,068,568.

Enrollment in all public schools started on July 3 and will continue until July 26.

As of SY 2023-2024, there are 47,818 public schools nationwide.

School visits

On the first day of classes, Angara is scheduled to visit Biñan Central Elementary School in Laguna.

He is also expected to monitor the opening of classes at Carmona National High School and Elementary School.

Angara is scheduled to meet with principals, parents, and education stakeholders at the Carmona Community Center.

He is also expected to visit Muntinlupa National High School and Casimiro Ynares Sr. National High School.
