1 dead, 2 missing in La Union due to 'Carina'


SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – An 11-year-old boy was killed and two others are missing due to the southwest monsoon or "habagat" enhanced by typhoon “Carina” in La Union.

TWO children were rescued from typhoon 'Carina' in La Union.

The fatality was a 11-year-old boy from Barangay Tammocalao, Bacnotan who was hit by a fallen tree.

The missing were identified as Pepito J. Doria, 61, of Tubao, who drowned after he was swept away by a raging river while visiting his minimart, and Adeline Gurion, 48, of Barangay Urayong, Bauang, who was also swept away by a river at the back of her house.

Search and retrieval operations are ongoing for Doria and Gurion.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office recorded 107 landslide, soil erosion, and flooding incidents in Tubao, Agoo, Bacnotan, Naguilian, Rosario, Bauang, Luna, and this city.

More than 12,600 families or 44,480 individuals in 165 barangays in 17 municipalities in La Union were affected.

Fifty-two houses were damaged by strong wind and fallen tree in Balaoan, Luna, San Juan, Agoo, Aringay, Bagulin, Bauang, Naguilian, and Santo Tomas.

Forty-two barangays in Bagulin, Agoo, Santol, Caba, Sudipen, and City of San Fernando experienced power interruption.

Power has been restored in 29 barangays.

Thirty-one road sections were affected in Bagulin, Caba, Naguilian, Bauang, and this city. (with a report from Freddie Lazaro)
