Batangas under state of calamity


BATANGAS CITY – Batangas was placed under a state of calamity due to rains caused by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” and typhoon “Carina” on Tuesday, July 23.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that several municipalities in the province been flooded due to non-stop rains.

The towns of Lemery, Agoncillo, and Balayan were inundated because of floodwater from nearby towns.

In Lemery, many vehicles were stranded as only trucks and buses can pass the flooded diversion road.

Floodwater carried debris that scattered on the road.

In Balayan, knee-deep floodwater affected houses in Barangay Caloocan, Lanatan, Ermita, and Barangay 11.

On Wednesday morning, the floodwater subsided but left behind mounds of waste.
