#CarinaPH: Almost 6,000 Caviteños displaced by floods

CAVITE – The number of individuals evacuated in the province due to flooding caused by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Carina climbed to 5,975 on Thursday, July 24.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Administrator Rustom Ram Colorado told the Manila Bulletin that 1,758 families are seeking temporary shelter in evacuation centers spread in 16 local government units (LGUs), namely:

  • Amadeo
  • Bacoor City
  • Carmona City
  • Cavite City
  • Dasmariñas City
  • Gen. Trias City
  • Imus City
  • Kawit
  • Maragondon
  • Naic
  • Noveleta
  • Rosario
  • Silang
  • Tagaytay
  • Tanza
  • Ternate

Colorado stated they received information about two individuals who drowned in Tanza on July 23. However, they are still verifying if the incident was caused by the floods.

In Silang, a part of the newly built river protection wall in Barangay Tubuan III collapsed, affecting 60 residents.

During a Facebook Live session, Mayor Kevin Anarna appealed to residents near the area to evacuate and ensure their safety amid the torrential rains.

In Bacoor City, floodwaters in major thoroughfares had receded by 2:00 p.m., allowing traffic to resume on roads that were earlier impassable.

Molino and Prinza Dams, meanwhile, continue to overflow and exhibit strong currents as of 12:30 p.m., according to the latest update from the Bacoor Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
