A South Korean fugitive, who is believed to be the head of an illegal drugs syndicate in his country, has been arrested in Pasay City, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced on Tuesday, July 23.
The BI identified Korean as Kim Jinsu, 45, who was arrested by operatives of the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) last July 18.
It said that “Kim is reportedly the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Daejeon City District Court in South Korea after he was charged with violations of his country’s Narcotics Control Act.”
“Authorities alleged that Kim headed a drug syndicate that facilitated the illegal importation, distribution and sale in Korea of illegal drugs worth more than 5 billion won, or about $3.6 million,” the bureau it also said.
“He also allegedly smuggled into Korea some six kilograms of methamphetamine, 1.5 kilograms of synthetic drugs and 3,000 tablets of ecstasy tablets which were allegedly transported using drug mules,” it added.
Kim is now detained at the BI's facility in Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.
Once deported, the Korean will be blacklisted and banned from returning to the Philippines, the BI said.
