A suspected Chinese hacker -- who worked for the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) that was raided in Porac, Pampanga -- has been arrested, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Monday, July 22.
The BI identified the arrested Chinese as Lin Qiude, 40, who was apprehended by operatives of the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) last Saturday, July 20, inside the Poro Point Freeport in San Fernando, La Union.
It said the arrest was part of the efforts “to locate and arrest individuals allegedly involved in online gaming-related crimes who were being investigated on by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC).”
Citing a report from BI-FSU Chief Rendel Ryan Sy, the BI said “Lin is subject of a warrant of detention issued by the public prosecutor in Anxi County, China where he was charged with committing Fraud.”
“Sy said that aside from being a fugitive in China, Lin is also wanted by local authorities for being suspected as one of the hackers employed by the PAOCC-raided hub in Porac,” it also said.
“Authorities suspect that Lin is responsible for hacking the bank accounts of victims based in the US, Middle East and Europe,” it added.
Lin is now detained at the BI's facility in Taguig City.
