Several Philippine banks and airline companies reported operational disruptions due to the widespread Microsoft outage affecting various industries globally.

UPDATE: Banks recover from Microsoft outage; Cebu Pacific cancels flights

Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co. (Metrobank), BDO Unibank, Union Bank of the Philippines, along with Cebu Pacific Air and AirAsia, reported that the global computer system issue has impacted certain operations.

According to BPI, the issue led to extended waiting times at branches and contact centers, as well as delays in processing financial transactions such as bill payments and interbank fund transfers.

Metrobank stated that due to the global outage related to Microsoft-based systems, customers may experience a slowdown or temporary unavailability of some bank products and services through online channels.

Unionbank, on the other hand, said that its customer service hotline and some branch services are temporarily unavailable.

BDO also advised its clients that these technical difficulties may result in extended wait times at branches and contact centers, as well as delays or unavailability of processing transactions via digital channels.

The affected local banks, however, assured that their respective technical teams are actively engaged in resolving the matter by collaborating closely with the relevant service providers.

Despite the challenges, BPI, Metrobank, and Unionbank assured their clients that the situation is being managed and services such as branches, ATMs, and cash acceptance machines (CAMs) remain accessible.

In separate advisories, Cebu Pacific said the budget carrier is experiencing technical issues reportedly related to technology provider CrowdStrike, which caused a global Microsoft system outage.

Cebu Pacific said that the technical issue requires airline staff to handle affected processes manually, potentially causing delays.

“We are working closely with our teams to mitigate disruptions to our operations and will provide regular updates as the situation progresses,” Cebu Pacific said.

Meanwhile, AirAsia stated that the Microsoft outage is causing unexpected rebooting of machines, resulting in operational disruptions related to check-in processes, self check-in kiosks, and navigation of the AirAsia MOVE app.
